Mundesley Holiday Camp, Here We Come
For a lot of people in the UK and the rest of Europe, summer holidays can't come soon enough. We live for 11 months out of the year in a constant cycle of hustle and bustle, moving between work and home and family functions. The pressures of daily responsibilities sometimes build to the point where we sit in the chair and just wish we could get away. That's what summer holidays are for. And although there are several shorter holiday periods scheduled throughout the year, there's something special about those few summer weeks spent relaxing in the warmth and sunshine.
Summer holidays are something that's good for all of us to enjoy. I remember, when I was young, heading off to Norfolk for three weeks at the beach. I chuckle when I think of all of us piling into the car while my father, just prior to starting the engine, would exclaim at the top of his voice, "Mundesley Holiday Camp, here we come!" A few hours later we found ourselves in that familiar old resort which had become our summer friend.
Those weeks in Norfolk made an amazing difference in the personality of both my parents, but my father in particular. For those few weeks he was free from the stress and responsibilities of work. He smiled a lot more and laughed as much. And when my father was happy, my mother was too. Those three weeks of holiday seemed like an annual taste of heaven which I won't soon forget. And even as an adult myself, I know just how important the annual summer holidays still are.
Though I'm not a doctor, I do believe that people who are unable to take a few weeks out their schedule for some annual holiday time suffer greatly. If they can never escape the ringing phone, the e-mail, and all the distractions of everyday life, then the pressure just continues to build until it explodes. We need that time away just to clear our heads and lower our blood pressure. We need some quiet and serene time to just stare at the water, go hiking in the mountains, or sit by a camp fire and ponder all the blessings of life.
I'll always cherish my memories of Mundesley Holiday Camp, but more importantly, I'll remember the positive effect the holidays had on my family. I'll continue to take my wife and children on holidays of our own knowing how much good it does all of us. So next summer, if you hear someone screaming at the top of his lungs about Mundesley, it'll probably be me. Why not come along and enjoy your own holidays - we'd love to have you!
